| Abstract | : | With 85 species, they are the major family of the order Euphausiacea (86 species). Known since ancient times to be present with baleen whales in Atlantic ocean and Mediterranean Sea (Pliny’s Naturalis Historiae, circa AD 77-79), they were named "krill" (whale food) by Nordic whalers. |
